Houston Blues Fest 2025 ~ "Peacock Crossroads"

In last week’s Memoirs blog post, I teased that I am working on/ contributing to, an art project that will be featured at Houston’s Blues Fest 2025.

I’m commissioned to paint on four 6 (H) x 24 (W) inch wood panels that will be a part of a sculpture titled, “Peacock Crossroads”—a sculpture by Art Uniti led by Tami Moschioni.

Tami is an amazing visual artist and visionary of “Peacock Crossroads.”

I am so honored for the opportunity to be a part of bringing this cool sculpture to life.

More details to come… (haha more teaser), but here is a “behind-the-scenes” glimpse of my rendering prior to painting and my reference materials.

For “Peacock Crossroads” I’m painting street signs that reference The Blues’ music and terminology, but the style is inspired by graffiti art.

I’m not sure if Tami knew this about me, but I LOVE graffiti art!

Graffiti Art was my style of drawing and creating when I was young and—it still remains to this day, deep inspiration.

When I received more details about my role, I was so excited and ready to get to work.

I pulled out a book I purchased about 12 to 15 years ago from a Half Priced Books “run” with my Dad (at The Rice Village location, but unfortunately isn’t there anymore).

This book is: “Graffiti World: Street Art from Five Continents” by Nicholas Gauz.

I purchased this book, before my law school days and way, way, way, before I had any idea of pursuing art seriously. This was a book I acquired purely for inspiration.

It’s so nice to return to this book, all these years later and use it as a reference for a commission.

Above are two main pages I zoned in on as references for the project.

The first picture I used stylistically for the first two word sets: “Bayou Blues.”

The second picture I used as reference for the light bubbles, as inspiration for the second set of words: “Blue Notes.”

More pictures and details to come soon, next week in the next post… but until then, here is a work in progress picture of the rendering for “Bayou Blues.”
