Sneak Peak. A Little Something I've Been Working.

“Adam,” a work in progress by AVM Hawkins.

The holidays are officially upon us.

And this weekly blog has snuck up on me.

I’ve begun (a late attempt) to set up our family Christmas tree, among the many tasks we must complete before the arrival of Christmas.

For this week’s blog, I thought I share a painting I’ve been working on that’s gaining closer to completion.

The painting’s tentative name is “Adam.”

I will keep this post very short, and will save the explanation and the story behind the piece when it’s officially complete.

Ever since I was young, I always drew faces—particularly male profiles as subject matter.

They are completely free-styled, drawn from the subconscious without a knowing of how they will look when completed.

This year, I’ve been working a lot with acrylic paint markers, which allow me to draw directly onto the canvas.

This has triggered more muscle memory from how I doodled when I was an adolescent.

With “Adam,” I first did a freehand sketch / outline with pencil on a primed canvas.

Then, I painted it with acrylic paint.

After, I used the acrylic paint markers to write small “symbols” all throughout the painting, providing a visual DNA of person within the painting.

Any ideas of why I decided to name the work, “Adam?” :)

Wishing you a great weekend and a wonderful holiday season.
