Family Date: Part 2

Mark and Harry at Discovery Green.

After enjoying the performance at The Wortham Center, we went to Discovery Green and had a picnic. We sat in an open space, near the pond area.

Mark laid out a blanket, and opened up a lunchbox he packed for us, consisting of animal crackers, salmon, bagels and brie, with ice cold water.

It was a quiet moment. We did not talk much. But the silence was peaceful and natural.

We just took in the warm, breeze, and the combination of the tranquility of nature and the hustle sounds of downtown Houston.

We recalled times when we lived in our first, small apartment, which wasn’t spectacular but was quiet and peaceful, surrounded by trees. I also remembered times when Mark would create moments like this to cheer me up, and keep me inspired when I had a hard day or week at work.

When looking back, I really cherished the moments of just being outside in nature. I now realize how much I’ve sought moments in nature during times when I had a lot on my mind in the past.

When I’m feeling good, confident and well, I forget about how important connecting with nature can be, and how I often fail to do so everyday as a daily routine.

I imagine I would be so much happier, and resilient to normal everyday stress if I did so consistently.

Maybe this can be a reminder to take care of oneself, everyday, even on the days when we feel good, not just the days we when I need it the most.

Wishing you a great day.

Always,

AVM
