Repurposed Art, Love + Light, and Attitude is Everything.
In preparation for my pop up event last week, I painted on some vintage picture mattes—creating a one of kind matte, perfect for self-framing one’s favorite photograph.
The more I grow as an artist, so does the value of my fine art.
But it’s always nice to create special bespoke items, that are affordable and easily incorporated into one’s everyday life.
I believe art is a necessity.
We need laughter, joy, color, ideas and inspiration in our everyday lives.
Sometimes, we need to be reminded that life is for the living, and it’s meant to be enjoyed.
Art, does more than just beautify a space. It has a thoughtful, intellectual as well as an emotional energetic impact on the viewer, that can last longer than physically being in the presence of the work.
Art triggers ideas, thoughts and attitudes that make one question their current reality…makes one question what is truly possible.
The more our hearts and minds expand, we realize there is so much more we are capable of creating and achieving.
One of my personal missions with my art, is that it brings, “love and light” to one’s life.
This may sound esoteric and a bit cheesy, but that’s the beauty about being an artist and making art—this is the one space where I am allowed to be esoteric, hopeful, and aspirational.
I think art is one of those few things, that people can bring into their lives, that can help shift one’s attitude, from cynicism to self-empowerment.
It is important, to find, nurture, and preserve the source of our joy—the love, passion, and well-being that make tough days, bearable…and that can make good days, fantastic.
As I write this, I am reminded of a magnet on our refrigerator from Hyman’s Seafood located in Charleston, South Carolina. (My husband’s a chef).
On the magnet, is this quote:
“The longer I live, the more I realize the impact of attitude on life. Attitude, to me, is more important than education, than money, than circumstances, than failures, than successes, than what other people think or say or do. It is more important than appearance, giftedness, or skill. It will make or break a company...a church...a home. The remarkable thing is we have a choice everyday regarding the attitude we embrace for that day. We cannot change our past...we cannot change the fact that people act in a certain way. We cannot change the inevitable. The only thing we can do is play on the one string we have...and that is our attitude. I am convinced that life is 10% what happens to me and 90% how I react to it. And so it is with you...we are in charge of our ATTITUDES.”
Art can influence our attitude.
It can remind us, of who we are, truly—which is: we are capable of so much more, than we could ever imagine.
To bring it back to these mattes, I envision them combining the beauty a pop of color can bring, especially combined with the image of someone or something we love.
I love creating art. I love living with art.
I am deeply inspired by art, but am even more inspired by the images of the people I adore. I’m excited to create something that combines these two elements.
