Post Snow Day in Houston
Copal Incense on Kitchen Counter.
It’s a slow easy morning, after a lovely white wonderland, a southern city covered in snow, extending the feel of the Christmas holiday in my heart. I’ve played. I’ve made snow angels on our lawn. My husband made a snowman. My son stomped and romped in snow for the first time in his life, documenting another cherished memory for our family.
I also rested, a lot yesterday.
The cold temperatures and cozy home was perfect for catching up on much needed rest and healing.
This morning, I lit my favorite incense: copal. It reminds me of mass growing up in New Orleans when the priest would bless the church and the people in it, waiving the incense in the sign of the cross.
The scent always calms me.
I’ve performed my own version in my home this morning, seeking to bless my home, my own personal energy, and surrender myself to a higher, wise and loving Power, personally searching internally on how I can be a better person, artist / creator, wife, and mother, today.
After that practice, I was inspired to write this.
Submit myself to writing a post, ideally once a day.
All aspects of my life contribute to my art. Meditations, Family, The People I Love, My Culture, Location, Aspirations, and so much more that entails my life. It’s the small things that make life joyful, and wonderful…and worth living. Not grandiose things.
Sometimes a cup of coffee can bring me so much joy. Ha, or hearing my son, with his sweet young voice, sing the ABC’s in the other room as I eavesdrop on his private singing session. All the things I cherish, the millions of mini blessings that I often overlook, are Everything. They mean Everything. And are my reasons for breathing.
Art is life. Art is literally all things small, often free, immensely beautiful things we actually take a moment to breathe in and experience fully with all of our senses.
It’s my goal to find at least one moment like this per day, to experience, enjoy, reflect and share.
Wishing you a wonderful day.
Always,
AVM
