New Work: Triumph & Necessary

Triumph; AVM Hawkins 2025, Acrylic, Oil Pastels, Mixed Media on Wood Panel. 12 (H) x 12 (W) inches.

I’ve created new work, and have added them to the website.

These contain several layers of paint strokes, then added texture, and oil pastel markings, then more paint and added mixed media.

I find this process exciting, for it provides many more new avenues to explore within each painting.

The texture creates crevices and topography that collect and maintain the remnants of previous layers, while building upon them.

One thing I am personally working on is providing more diversity in size for my art.

A lot of works in progress currently in the studio are smaller original works such as these and abstracts of various sizes on paper. Perfect for framing.

More to come soon.

Necessary; AVM Hawkins 2025, Acrylic, Oil Pastels, & Mixed Media on Wood Panel; 12 (H) x 12 (W) inches.

It’s takes a good minute to feel when these works are finished.

Just because they are small does not mean that they take less time. Often times, it’s quite the opposite.

There is not as much physical space to explore with smaller paintings to see what identity will develop, so the exploration of space on the canvas converts into exploration of the work through time—over time I will begin to see what personality shall develop.

With a large scale work, there’s lots of space to explore, to expand, to try different things. But with a smaller work, one must have a vision; and in my case, one must take time to see what will come of the piece.

This time, may seem inefficient; but it’s so important. Time informs us. Time gives us unique and a broader perspective.

Ideally we grow wiser, possess clarity, and then confidence to pursue further.

Luckily I don’t spend all my time focusing only one subject; but touch as many works as possible during each studio session.

Eventually, pieces that were close, cross the finish line.

Ready to enter into the world of the living.
